Richmond Eats:

The Local Eating Challenge

Raise awareness and support food security in your community with Richmond Food Security Society's (RFSS) second annual Richmond Eats Local Eating Challenge!

Richmond Eats: A Local-Eating Challenge

From August 22-28, 2016 we challenge our supporters, volunteers, and staff to only eat produce grown here on Lulu island, meat raised by our farmers, and seafood caught by local fisherman* while raising funds to help grow a robust Richmond food system.

How Does it Work?

Supporters of Richmond Food Security Society sign up here as 'Foodies' and commit to fundraising and eating only Richmond grown foods for one week. Then the FUNdraising begins! Foodies reach out to their family, friends, and networks and request donations towards their efforts in taking the challenge.

Between August 22 and 28, Foodies will eat only* food grown in Richmond.

Foodies will get regular support and communication from RFSS, including The Richmond Eats Local Eating Guide containing a map to Richmond farms.

Why Take The Local Eating Challenge?

Eating local is about bringing communities closer to the roots of our food production systems, nourishing not only the belly, but also our relationships with one another and the land that sustains us. All funds raised go directly to supporting RFSS's work fighting hunger and increasing local food production in Richmond.

Join us!

Become a Foodie and take part in the challenge, make a donation, and join the conversation through Facebook, Twitter, and on the RFSS blog.

*Each participant is allowed three exceptions to allow for dietary needs or to facilitate cooking (e.g. cooking oil, salt, and/or a grain). We will also allow participants who don't live in Richmond to eat from their own gardens. Please check with your doctor in advance if you have any health concerns.

RFSS is growing a robust local food system through education, advocacy, and research aimed at fighting hunger and increasing local food production. To learn more about projects we are working on visit www.richmondfoodsecurity.org.

Thank you for your support!
